Our Project
BIOMAC-BP is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral network funded by the European Commission. The consortium consists of six academic institutions and two companies from six European countries that are actively contributing to the projected research work.
We research and train 14 PhD students with a multidisciplinary approach ranging from microbiology, experimental physics and computer simulations to agricultural sciences.
Our common goal is to open up new avenues in biological pest control and thus contribute to reducing the use of synthetic pesticides.
Our Mission
Agricultural pest control has traditionally relied heavily on synthetic pesticides to manage and mitigate pest populations effectively.
These chemicals offer quick and potent solutions but often come with environmental concerns and potential health risks. As a result, there is a growing need for sustainable pest management strategies.
With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the BIOMAC-BP project focuses on microbial pesticides as a safer alternative. The key objective is to incorporate bio-sourced 2-phase high-interface materials in biopesticide formulations to stabilise bacterial cargo. These materials are expected to improve bacterial fitness and enhance the stability and effectiveness of biopesticides.
