WP1: Improving Bacterial Fitness by Novel Formulations and Innovative Processing of BIO2PHIM
The general aim of the research conducted in work package WP1 of BIOMAC-BP is twofold:
- We aim at developing materials that can encapsulate, transport and release bacteria for use as bio- pesticides. These materials will be soft interface-dominated biphasic materials like foams or emulsions which are prevented from macroscopic phase separation by bio-sourced stabilizers. These materials are termed Bio-Stabilized-2–Phasic-High-Interface-Materials, BIO2PHIM.
- In a second step we will incorporate microbes as bio-pesticides into BIO2PHIM formulations and investigate how the fabrication process (foaming, emulsification, gelation etc.) impacts microbial fitness (survival rate, motility, growth).
WP1 is led by beneficiary ESPCI (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris). ESPCI has many years of experience in the investigation of aqueous foams.
